Burkina Yellow chilli update- 17/05/18

Image
Burkina Yellow update 17/05/18 Today under the leaves I noticed to my great delight a little beauty. Tucked up undertone leaves my first chilli has formed. Its only small at the moment about 1cm but its definitely there. They start life as small pale green balls before they change colour. 17/03/18 As its so cold I have been concentrating on what is growing indoors. Here my Burkina Yellow Chilli is starting to bud and all these will hopefully flower and turn into chillis, at the moment there is about 40 of these. I keep this plant on a table infant of a window that gets light all day, and the warmth from the sun and radiator. This beauty is about 40cm tall at the moment and bushes out to about 30/40cm. Last year I saved some seeds which I dried out and have planted out, but some chillis can take up to a month to germinate.

Naga Chilli update 13/05/18

Naga chilli update 13/05/18 Its been a slow process but finally my Naga reaper chilli seeds are getting somewhere. I think its because of the dreadful weather we had up until May, and the lack of sunshine hours. The two plants that grew are now coming along nicely. Each plant has several sets of leaves and will be planted into bigger pots this week. I will be keeping them in the window sill in full sunlight. I have decided to grow a few different types of chillies this year and will do a blog on the different varieties that i am growing and see how they progress. these chillies as with most of the varieties I'm growing will be at home, but I do have some Chenzo chillies growing in the greenhouse. It will be interesting to see how each plant grows. Last year I swapped some Burkina Yellow Chilli seeds for some Naga Chilli seeds. I have planted 4 about 10 days ago and 2 have pepped through. They have been put in the window by the radiator as the ideal so...

Spring has arrived- strawberries

Image
Spring has arrived-Strawberries The sun has shone the grass and weeds have grown, but so have the fruit and vegetables started to come to life. The 8 strawberry plants I started with 3 years ago have made it to 28 plants in total!!!! The first year I wasn't sure what I was doing, so I just left them to their own devises. The second year I was a bit more knowledgeable when it came to looking after and growing my strawberries. I picked the strawberries that grew and instead of cutting of the runners so that the plants concentrated on producing berries, I decided to play the long game. I potted the runners while still attached to the main plant, and allowed them to grow solid roots in the little pots. Once the runners had started to go a deep brown and felt a little dry I knew that the new plants had well established roots. I snipped the runners releasing the plant from the mother plant. Each mother plant varied in the amount of runners but one of them had 4 runners from it...
